If you're thinking about initiating a remodeling project, you already know how many options there are. From major remodeling projects like adding a room or renovating your existing kitchen or bath, to undertaking a small remodeling project, it can all seem daunting.

Start small and think big. Use a series of small remodeling project as manageable steps to increase your home's market value without overextending your savings.

Step One: The Necessities
Small but necessary maintenance improvements should be an important priority because they can significantly increase the market value of a home. Even a small remodeling project like childproofing your home is a conscientious option with low remodeling costs for a house that appeals to new parents. Having a comprehensive design for your yard can pay off handsomely. Small remodeling projects like upgrading rain gutters and installing new walkways are a cost effective way to improve the look of your home.

Step Two: Money Savers
Once you have taken care of the essential elements of home maintenance, turn your attention to slightly larger remodeling projects with reasonable costs that can make a larger profit in the long term. Updating your home by changing the hardware on your kitchen cabinets or installing replacement windows or new interior or patio doors can make a substantial profit when you sell your home.

Step Three: Big Purchases
A major remodeling project is an investment that can mean thousands for your home's market value. Expanding your home, adding a swimming pool or hot tub, or undertaking a major remodeling project for your master bath or kitchen can increase the market value of your home. Major remodeling projects may not make a profit immediately, but they improve the overall appearance of your home and eventually bring a profit that exceeds your initial investment.

Don't let a major remodeling project list overwhelm you. Take on one small remodeling project at a time, and put some time between larger projects and make sure to enjoy your home as you improve it.
