Get in the Swim with a Backyard Swimming Pool
by Roger Diez
For recreation and healthy exercise at home, you can't beat a swimming pool. The type of pool you select depends on a number of factors, including space available, climate, and budget.
Is an In-ground Swimming Pool Right for You?
If you live in a mild climate where you can use a pool for much of the year, an in-ground pool is an excellent choice. There are two basic types of in-ground pool construction; a concrete or fiberglass pool. Both require considerable excavation, but the fiberglass pool can be dropped into a hole where the concrete model is constructed on-site. If you live in an area where the summer season is short and winters are severe, an above-ground pool might be a wiser choice.
Are Pool Costs Worth it?
Only you can determine the cost-benefit ratio of a pool for your situation. But remember, when determining costs, pool prices are only part of the equation. You must also consider increased homeowners insurance premiums and the ongoing costs of chemicals and maintenance, and balance those against the convenience and fun of swimming pool ownership.
Should you decide that a backyard swimming pool is for you, now is an excellent time to invest in a pool. The current slow economy has pool builders offering very attractive pool prices.
