Pest Control

Keeping Your Home Clean, Comfortable, and Controlled Against Pests

by Joe Cooper

The only guests in your home should be the ones you invite. Protecting it against pests is a matter of control. Taking the following steps can help ensure you successfully ensure the best rat and wasp control for your home.

The Basics
Although they seem obvious, here are the first three steps to keeping your home pest-free:

  1. Keep food contained. Discard old fruit, make sure Tupperware is tight-fitting, keep trash closed, and take it out regularly.
  2. Maintain your yard. Keep your yard mowed, landscaped, and your garden under control to keep insects and pests at bay.
  3. Secure your home.Make sure all of your doors and windows are in working order and shut completely. Insulation also counts against smaller pests like ants and termites.

Getting Mean with Meaner Pests
Ants and termites are one thing, but the next level of pests, including rats and wasps, can bring a different level of discomfort to your home. Rat control is an especially serious issue. These pests can carry disease into your home, not to mention a few dozen of their friends.

Here are the top three tips for keeping these critters far and away from your home:

  1. Protect your surroundings. Tree growth in your yard is an important factor for both rats and wasps. Keep all trees trimmed safely away from your home.
  2. Make them homeless.Inspect your yard for any type of habitat for these pests. Trees, woodpiles, sheds, and garbage storage areas are all potential homes or rodents and insects. Making sure they are all clean and always contained is part of good rat and wasp control.
  3. Use an arsenal. You can take a number of actions if infestations have already begun, including strips, balls, sensors, and sprays.

Hiring a Professional
When a pest problem escalates, it's best to hire an exterminator as soon as possible. Most exterminators are prepared to combat all manner of pests, from insects to rats and more. When cleaning and traps are not enough, an exterminator can provide the treatment and protection your home needs to be pest-free.
