Get Rid of those Pesky Stinging Insects
by John Tuthill
Wasp Removal
Wasps typically build their papery nests under eaves and ledges of your home. Because they are not as aggressive as bees and hornets, wasp removal can usually be done safely with insecticide sprays sold at most grocery or hardware stores. There are also environmentally friendly wasp removal solutions, such as water traps that use natural pheromones to attract wasps. The next step is to destroy the nest. This should be done at night when the wasps are drowsy and slow to react. Making sure to cover your skin with protective clothing, simply isolate the nest with a plastic bag or bowl, sealing it off from the outside.
Hornet Removal
Hornets are a totally different story. They are generally much more aggressive and dangerous than wasps. Their nests, which resemble a large upside-down teardrop, may contain thousands of angry hornets that will not appreciate you disturbing them. Experienced hornet removal professionals should generally be called in to deal with large hornet nests. After the nests are gone, make sure that you prevent the insects from returning by applying hornet removal insecticides or sealing off the site of the previous nest.
Bee Removal
Most bees are more interested in making delicious honey for their queen than stinging unsuspecting humans. Recently, however, new species of territorial, Africanized bees have made their way into the US. If your bees are aggressive, a professional bee removal service is your best bet.
