Buy a Hot Tub That's Perfect for Every Season
By Mary Butler
There are few greater pleasures in life than taking a dip in a hot tub after a day of skiingı or a long day at work. It doesn't really matter what the weather's like, and you don't need a reason to hop in. Soaking in warm water is therapeutic. And it can be great fun when shared with other people.
One of the most wonderful things about hot tubs is how functional they are, so much so that shopping for a home spa can be a little overwhelming. There are a multitude of options for every home and lifestyle.
Spa Options Abound
You can opt for a portable, above-ground spa or one built into the ground, perhaps to match an existing swimming pool. If you plan to use your spa for exercise or therapy, you can buy a home spa with extra depth and room for movement. All home spas come in a variety of sizes, from the more intimate two- to three-person models to large seven-person party spas. Locks and alarm systems are available if you have small children.
Other options include: therapy seats, water purification waterfalls, sound and entertainment systems, jetted foot wells, and mood lighting.
Hot to Find the Perfect Hot Tub
Hot tubs are sold year round, but fall is a particularly good time to buy, as showrooms make way for next year's models. Spa dealers often have sales, but don't feel pressured to buy a hot tub just because the price is right. Buying a hot tub is an investment. Take your time to examine different models before you commit.
Many spa dealers will encourage you to test soak to ensure a good fit. Look for tubs with seats both deep enough so that the water covers your shoulders and shallow enough to let you cool off. Consider how the jets work and whether you can stretch out and get comfortable.
Remember: you want your spa to be a place of refuge and fun.
