Bathroom Design Ideas for Springtime
by Brett Freeman

Spring is when nature redecorates itself, with beauty and color exploding from landscapes that had, only weeks before, appeared blighted. It's only natural to follow nature's lead as you do your own seasonal redecorating, brightening the rooms in your home to welcome in the year's brightest season. This can be tricky with bathroom design, as bathrooms tend to get less natural light than other rooms in your home. The key is to keep reminding yourself to lighten up.

Lighter Curtains
Bathrooms typically have few windows, and those that they do have tend to be small. This makes it difficult to get a lot of sunlight, but it also means that changing the curtains it easy and inexpensive. Gauzy shears are a good choice because they let in a lot of light while still protecting your privacy. Their light weight also allows you to leave the window open: shears will billow in the breeze, but won't rattle around and pull your curtain rod down the way heavier curtains can. And to better enjoy the added natural light, consider a lighter weight, lighter-colored bathroom shower curtain, along with a clear or translucent bathtub liner.

Lighter Colors
Repainting every spring isn't practical, but you can still lighten up the colors in your bathroom by switching over to a bathroom shower curtain (as mentioned above) and towels in springtime colors such as lilac and pale yellows or greens. These colors will soften the glare of your artificial lights without dampening any natural light you have coming through the windows.

Lighter Aromas
Potpourri and scented candles are great for keeping bathrooms smelling fresh, but in springtime it's better to take advantage of what Mother Nature provides. Replace those candles and potpourri baskets with vases so that you can keep your bathroom full of fresh cut flowers. If counter space is an issue, consider adding wall mounted vases.
